Sheriff Leading 17 Counties Against Maryland Calls Sanctuary Policy Stupidity at Its Best
Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler of Harford County isn’t mincing words anymore, and honestly, why should he? When two women in your jurisdiction get murdered by illegal immigrants within a year of each other, you tend to lose patience with politicians who think good intentions matter more than results. Rachel Morin and Kayla Hamilton are dead. Those are names, not statistics. And Gahler is leading 17 of Maryland’s 24 counties in a lawsuit that’s basically saying what plenty of Americans already think: sanctuary laws are getting people killed.
The sheriff told Congress something that should be obvious to anyone who remembers September 11, 2001. We learned a brutal lesson that day about what happens when law enforcement agencies don’t talk to each other. Information silos cost lives. The 9/11 Commission made that crystal clear. Yet here we are, nearly a quarter century later, and Maryland’s legislature decided it’s somehow progressive to ban local cops from communicating with federal immigration authorities. Gahler called it “stupidity at its best,” and you’d be hard pressed to find a better description.
