Trump Demands Iran Pay Compensation for Decades of American Combat Deaths
President Donald Trump has directed his negotiating team to demand financial compensation from Iran for Americans killed or wounded in Iranian-backed attacks spanning several decades, while simultaneously calling for payments to families of Iranian citizens killed by their own government during protests.
The president’s statement follows Tehran’s recent demands for war reparations from Washington as a precondition for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials have insisted the United States end its naval blockade of Iranian ports, lift all economic sanctions, release frozen Iranian assets, and provide compensation for damages sustained during the five-month military conflict.
